Infection
Management Coalition

The Infection Management Coalition (IMC) is a group of charities, professional societies, industry bodies and life science companies that have come together to advocate for a holistic approach to infection management to protect our citizens, healthcare system and economy.

What is the IMC?

Our ambition is to support the delivery of transformational policy and system change that improves the way that infection is detected, monitored, prevented, and managed across all parts of the NHS and in broader society.

We want to hold the Government to account on the delivery of existing commitments – such as ambitions related to antimicrobial resistance (AMR) and sepsis – and, more broadly, on the creation of systems that drive patient-centred care and best practice in infection management.

Meaningful improvements in infection management will only be achieved through implementing a whole system approach. We use the expertise and connections of our members to advocate for improvements across our four key pillars of infection management: outbreak and pandemic preparedness; infection prevention; rapid recognition, diagnosis and treatment of time-critical infections and sepsis; and antimicrobial stewardship (AMS).

What is infection management?

Infection management describes the coordinated set of activities that prevent, detect, treat, monitor, and control infections in healthcare and community settings. It covers clinical care (diagnosis, appropriate antimicrobial therapy, and patient management), infection prevention and control (IPC) measures (such as hand hygiene, environmental cleaning, isolation precautions, and vaccination) and surveillance and stewardship (monitoring infection trends, antimicrobial resistance, and ensuring responsible use of appropriate antimicrobials).

Our Members

The IMC brings together experts representing healthcare professionals and their societies, the scientific community, patient communities, industry and industry regulators. Currently, our membership includes:

This breadth enables us to take a holistic view of infection management, facilitating cross-sector learning and amplifying best practice wherever it occurs across the continuum. Through our members’ networks, we utilise on-the-ground intelligence and national policy insights to inform our positions and policy recommendations.
